How To Cold Brew Loose Leaf Tea
When you come home boiling hot and open the fridge, what's waiting for you? If it's not cold brew tea yet, here's what you're missing.
What Is Cold Brew Tea?
In short: smoother, naturally sweeter flavour, a fraction of the caffeine, and zero effort — just leaves and cold water, done overnight in the fridge. No sugar, no syrups, just the amazing flavour of pure leaves. Compare that to a bottle of shop iced tea, which often comes loaded with sugar.
How to Cold Brew Tea — 3 Simple Steps
1. Choose your leaves
Some of our favourites for cold brewing are White Hibiscus Passion, Forever Spring Oolong, and Organic Lemongrass — tart and floral, smooth and fruity, or citrusy and calming, depending on your mood.
2. Add cold water.
Roughly one heaped teaspoon (or one pyramid) per 250ml of cold water — about 2–3x that for a litre. Use a cold brew bottle (like the Hario pictured above) if you have one, or any water container will do.
3. Steep in the fridge
Leave it for approximately 3–8 hours, then strain, pour over ice (optional), and that's it — ready to go.
Now Experiment
Many decent loose leaf teas make great cold brews, so don't limit yourself. Play around with the teas, experiment with ratios and steep times, and find your perfect summer brew.
Your fridge is about to get a lot more interesting. :)
